Ferrier Estate, Kidbrooke SE3
I know this is going back a fair bit and I'd be surprised if anyone can tell me....
Back in about 1999/2000 I spotted a dipole on one of the eleven small 12 storey tower blocks on the Ferrier Estate but there wasn't a station using it at the time and it looked like it might have been out of use for some time.
....But does anyone know who it was? There was a lot better sites close by so I was quite surprised to see it but when I checked on a radio outside the block it was definitely no longer in use.
Anyone know who it was?

I think it may have been Juice FM 94.0, as its pretty close to the area they used to come from.

Yeah you could be right, back in 1995 I spotted a dipole on a 20ft pole on top of Hastings House, Cardwell, Woolwich SE18 and that was being used by Juice 94.0 and I lived out in Surrey at the time and couldn't pick up the signal there (probably because of Shooters blocking it out), but there was other times when I did pick it up in Surrey where it must have been coming from another site so it could have been from there.
....But I'm still surprised that anyone would chose them as they were on very low ground and Eltham was only around the corner on high ground with a few easily accessable blocks. There is also another block on Well Hall Road which I don't think anyone has ever used but had a cracking view over the city.

I think at the time the council were on a mission and the blocks were getting locked off so it was probably the only one they could get on

From memory Juice went off around 1997 I think so if this was their aerial then it probably hadn't been used for a good 2 to 3 years. But you could certainly still get up the Eltham/Well Hall blocks with just FB's back in 2000 which would give a lot better coverage of London.

I remember they tried to make a comeback around 1999, but it's also possible that aerial was there for some time, I remember seeing it and wondering the same. The Eltham and Well Hall blocks were bait as they had some quite observant older people living in them who would call the police or council.

Ahh OK fair enough makes sense and that must be why no one was using them then, there was certainly a lot of elderly people living in those three brown blocks just off Eltham High St. I used to access their roof by climbing out of a double glazed window.

Around the same time I also spotted an aerial on top of this 8 storey block in Westcombe Park but again it wasn't in use, any ideas who this was?

Ha, I know that block
Good view from up there. That was probably also Juice. There were a couple of short-lived stations nearby around that time but I can't remember the names of them.

Yeah I remember just walking straight in up the stairs to the top floor and there was indeed a very good view into the city from that small block. The aerial was ontop of the lift motor/tank room in centre at the very top.
....What ever it was it was probably on before I moved back to the area.

Juice 94 used the Kidbrooke block for August Bank Holiday weekend as a one off broadcast in 1998.

Haha apart from the design of cars, this block still looks identical!teckniqs wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 10:05 am Around the same time I also spotted an aerial on top of this 8 storey block in Westcombe Park but again it wasn't in use, any ideas who this was?
